Irish fiddler Kevin Burke and guitarist Cal Scott play ballads and reels for us, looking ahead to their performances this weekend at the Houston International Festival's Salute to Ireland

Dr. Allen Hightower, Music Director of the Houston Masterworks Chorus, speaks by phone with  Catherine Lu. The Masterworks Chorus’s 2008-2009 season has borne the title, From Darkness to Light, and the concert series concludes with a program called “The Voice of Prophecy;” it’s a complete performance of Felix Mendelssohn’s oratorio, ElijahIt’s Saturday evening at 7:30 in the Shepherd School of Music’s Stude Concert Hall on the Rice University campus. Listen. Alley Theatre resident actors Elizabeth Bunch and Chris Hutchison are two of the five cast  members of the company’s new production of Mauritius, a suspenseful comedy by Theresa Rebeck. There are evening performances of Mauritius, Tuesdays through Sundays … and matinees Saturdays and Sundays, through May Third. Bunch and Hutchison chat with KUHF’s St. John Flynn. Listen. Download.

Irish fiddler Kevin Burke and American guitarist and composer Cal Scott, in collaboration with other Texas and Irish musicians, will spend most of the afternoon and early evening on Saturday, performing on the McGonigel’s Mucky Duck Pub Stage at the Houston International Festival. Sunday, they’re scheduled to appear at three different times on as many I-Fest stages, including a 2:30PM set with guest piper, Tom Creegan, on the H-E-B Cultural Stage, hosted by your friends from KUHF, Houston Public Radio.
