Film Review: “Fast and Furious”

(Universal. 1 hour, 39 minutes. Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, some sexual content, language and drug references. Directed by Justin Lin.) Vin Diesel (Dominic Toretto), Paul Walker (Brian O’Conner), Jordana Brewster (Mia), Michelle Rodriguez (Letty). Music by Brian Tyler.

Fourth entry in the series is a satisfying actioner buoyed by the strong screen presence of Diesel. Add several extended chase sequences, hot babes, and less-silly-than-usual dialogue; stir, and enjoy. Movie bowed to a $72 million weekend, the best April opening ever. The studio wisely reunited the original cast (Diesel made a cameo in #2, and was missing altogether in #3). They ramped up the action, mixed in some colorful background (Mexico and the Dominican Republic), and a good Latin-flavored soundtrack. They kept the rating to PG-13 so the teenagers can watch it multiple times (it’s too intense for younger kids). Notice I haven’t described the plot. Relax, turn off your brain, and have a good time.
