DVD Review: “Closure”

(Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. 2007. 1 Disc. 80 minutes. Rated R. Directed by Dan Reed. Gillian Anderson, Danny Dyer, Anthony Calf, Ralph Brown. Music by Ilan Eshkeri.

Like her former X-Files costar David Duchovny, Anderson hasn’t found much post-TV-series success. This icy British thriller had a modest success across the pond, where it was called Straightheads (slang for those who haven’t committed a crime). Anderson and Dyer play a couple who are brutally attacked after driving back from a posh party at a country estate; Dyer is emotionally devastated, so Anderson takes the lead when the opportunity comes to exact revenge. Graphic; heed the R rating. Perhaps Mulder and Scully’s fortunes are changing: Duchovny’s getting some notice for his new cable series Californication, and the new X-Files movie is supposedly in pre-production. In the meantime, some Anderson fans will console themselves with her chilly character here.
