DVD Review: “Wind Chill”

(Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. 2007. 1 Disc. 91 minutes. Rated R. Directed by Gregory Jacobs.) Emily Blunt, Ashton Holmes, Martin Donovan. Music by Clint Mansell.

Under-the-radar thriller whose beginning is better than its end. Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) is effective as a college student who hitches a ride home at the holidays with a strange classmate (Holmes). She realizes quickly he knows a little too much about her…then they’re run off the road on a snowy winter night by a mysterious car. Stranded and forced to spend the night with each other, the two quickly realize…the cold is the least of their worries! The interaction between the prickly Blunt and the mild-mannered Holmes works pretty well…the plot revelations, less so. Don’t be surprised if you reach for a blanket after viewing those blizzard scenes. From George Clooney’s and Steven Soderbergh’s production company (now disbanded); director Jacobs was one of their proteges.
