DVD Review: “The Devil Wears Prada”

I saw this in the theater and even though I enjoyed Streep and Blunt, I wasn’t too impressed overall; I thought it played like a high-fashion After-School Special with better sets and costumes. (Dowdy girl lands job at fashion magazine! Girl has transformation and becomes as shallow as her co-workers! Girl alienates bohemian boyfriend! etc.) Watching it again on video, I liked it a lot better, probably because I picked up more of the nuances of Ms. Streep’s performance as a high-powered fashion magazine editor. The buzz is she’ll get an Oscar nomination for this, and I wouldn’t be surprised. The extras include deleted scenes, several featurettes and a gag reel; nothing compelling.
