Continuing our new series of music podcasts, this week we feature and excerpt from a recent performance by the 2006 Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival. . .
For the opening orchestral concert of the 2006 Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival the University of Houston’s Franz Anton Krager lead a performance of the monumental Symphony No.6 in a-minor “Tragic” by Gustav Mahler. An enormous work that takes as much physical stamina as emotional depth, the youthful musicians of the TMF Orchestra pulled off an outstanding performance. Franz Krager was noticeably moved at several moments in the concert as where many of the musicians.
In it’s 17th season of performances at the University of Houston the annual institute attracts some 125 college-age and post-graduate-level musicans from around the world for a month’s worth of performance enhancing training which includes private lessons, master classes, rehearsals and performances under the watchful eyes and ears of a staff of seasoned professionals.
As we continue this new series of podcasts from The Front Row archives we present this performance of the Scherzo from Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No.6 in a-minor, “Tragic”. The recording was made on Saturday, June 10th, 2006 by the Moores School of Music’s Afshin Farzadfar in the Moores Opera House at the University of Houston.
