The Black Church: This Is Our Story, This Is Our Song. Tune in or stream February 16 & 17 at 8pm on TV 8

HOUSTON – (February 5, 2021) Houston Public Media TV 8 will broadcast The Black Church: This is Our Story, This is Our Song Feb. 16 and 17 at 8 p.m. on Houston Public Media. The two-part program, produced by PBS and WETA, is an intimate special from Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. It reveals the broad history and culture of the Black church, explores African American faith communities on the frontlines of hope and change, and features interviews with Oprah, John Legend, Bishop Michael Curry, Rev. Sharpton, Jennifer Hudson and many more.

In partnership with KTSU, the public radio station of Texas Southern University, and The University of Houston Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Houston Public Media is producing companion programming focused on Houston's Black church. Keeping the Faith: The Black Church in Houston and Lift Up Your Hearts: Houston's Gospel Heritage is a two-part series that features interviews from influential leaders of Houston who represent faith within the community. This series, and many others, can be viewed onthe Houston Public Media website with additional videos being added throughout the month.

Lift Up Your Hearts: Houston's Gospel Heritage

Lift Up Your Hearts: Houston's Gospel Heritage is a radio program that highlights Houston's top gospel talent such as Yolanda Adams, Kim Burrell, Kurt Carr and many others. An encore presentation of Lift Up Your Hearts airs Sunday, Feb. 21 at 6 a.m. on News 88.7.

The University of Houston Presents a Conversation with Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Houston Public Media's Eddie Robinson

To round out this local multi-media collaboration, Houston Public Media is partnering with the University of Houston Racial Equity and Social Justice committee to bring our community a discussion with Dr. Henry Louis "Skip" Gates, Jr. Houston Public Media anchor Eddie Robinson will have a one-on-one conversation with Dr. Gates, taking viewers on a journey through the history and culture of the Black Church.
