In the only citywide runoff, Jolanda Jones and Joe Trevino are running for city council At-Large Position 5.ξ Wanda Adams and Lawrence Allen Jr. are running for city council District D, and Mike Sullivan and Annette Dwyer are running for District E. Voters in HISD board District 2 will choose between Carol Mims Galloway and Michael Yarbrough. Harris County Clerk Beverly Kaufman says the ballot is short and so is the early voting period.

"Early voting for a runoff election is an abbreviated voting period. It's not as long as before the General Election, so you only have between the 28th and the 4th in which to vote."ξ

Kaufman says she wishes local elections could attract more interest and more people, because local officials have the most direct impact on those who elect them.

"The leadership that is being elected will have a major impact on the policies, decisions made by your city government, as well as your HISD, and so these decisions shouldn't be taken lightly. We urge voters to take the option of going and voting early so that you leave your Saturday free for holiday shopping."ξ

Early voting ends next Tuesday December 4th, and the runoff is Saturday December 8th. There's more information on the early voting schedule and a map of locations on our website KUHF dot org. Jim Bell, Houston Public Radio News.
