The Texas EMS Conference is put on by the Texas Department of State Health Services.ξ Conference Coordinator Kelly Harrell says changing technology is allowing EMS workers to treat patients more at the scene of an incident.

"The job has become much more complicated, because there's so much more that medics can do now instead of just loading people into an ambulance and getting them to a hospital. So there's a lot more training which is where we step in."

Harrell says they also want the public to be more familiar with what they do so that in the event of an emergency, the response won't seem so foreign.ξ EMS equipment will be on display for the public at the George R. Brown Convention Center on Sunday from 3:00 - 7:00 PM.ξ Capella Tucker, Houston Public Radio News.
