No Child Left Behind

The No Child Left Behind legislation is up for re-authorization in Congress. A number of events are being held nationwide to allow for public input including one in Houston.

A report will be delivered to lawmakers later this spring. Houston A Plus Challenge is working with other groups to gather public input. Executive Director Michele Pola says feedback from the community shows support for an accountability system, but also a need for changes.

"Some of the areas we're touching on specifically ... community engagement and intervention for low performing schools."

Pola says there are ideas on how to help low performing schools.

"Early interventions ... providing support ... looking at local opporunities ... turning the schools around."

The meeting is being held tomorrow evening at Reagan High School.
