What are the business trends projected to impact the state, the region and the north Houston area in 2007 and beyond? What is the current climate for business in key north Houston industries? These and other questions will be answered by industry leaders participating in the 2007 Economic Leadership Forum January 18 at the Sofitel Houston Hotel, 425 North Sam Houston Parkway East.
The forum is a half-day event that will open at 11:30 a.m. with lunch and a keynote address by Dr. Mark Dotzour, chief economist and director of research for the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University in College Station.
At 2 p.m., KUHF Station Manager Debra Fraser will moderate an panel of north Houston industry leaders including R.G. Charles, Area Geoscience and Exploration Manager for ExxonMobil Exploration; Rick Vacar, director of the Houston Airport System; Jim McIngvale, owner of Gallery Furniture; Fred Caldwell, president and CEO of Caldwell Watson Real Estate and Ray Laughter, vice chancellor of the North Harris Montgomery Community College District. Jeff Moseley, president and CEO of the Greater Houston Partnership, will round out the panel and provide a regional perspective to the afternoon talks.
"Dr. Dotzour is one of the smartest men I've ever met. Plus, he's funny and entertaining. We're in for a real treat," said Bill Ginder of Caldwell Watson Real Estate. Ginder is chairman of the North Houston Greenspoint Chamber of Commerce, which is hosting the forum.
Chamber President Reggie Gray said of the afternoon workshop, "The energy industry, real estate, retail, education, and the airport system are among the key north Houston economic drivers to be explored. We'll look at the overall business climate for this area and identify the business trends projected to impact north Houston in the next few years.
