Houston Food Bank President Brian Greene led a tour of Wal-Mart employees through the warehouse facility on the city's northside.
"We deliver between 30 and 40 percent of our output. The rest of it is picked up. These are charities coming from anywhere in an 18 county area around Houston, coming to pick up their order."
The 200,000 pounds of turkey represent about 800-thousand servings for the hungry. End Hunger Network Executive Director David Davenport says protein products are the hardest to get a hold of.
"They are not the items donated the most into the system. So, and there's some challenges on handling it. It's hard to get a hold of but it's needed the most for children, seniors, and families."
The two agencies stepped up production following Hurricane Katrina and the Food Banks' Greene says they now have the challenge of keeping it up.
"But our real goal is to get this food bank up to 120-million pounds per year of actual output. And so we are going to be looking at over all what is the infrastructure that the food bank is going to need? What is the infrastucture needs that our partner programs that we work with are going to need."
