Castmembers from Masquerade Theatre's production of Little Shop of Horrors where in Studio 3-c this afternoon. . .

Castmembers from Masquerade's Little ShopDuring the off-season, many Houston theater companies offer lighter fare, often turning to musicals for their summer productions. Now, Masquerade Theatre presents musicals all yearξ'round, so what they've decided to do for their special summer show this year is to mount, not one, but two musicals performed in repertory. Their staging ofξYou're a Good ManξCharlie Brown, based on the Peanuts comic strip, opened last night at the HobbyξCenter. Their rendition of the theatrical parody of Roger Corman's 1960 low-budget science-fiction movie, Little Shop of Horrors, makes it's debut tomorrow evening, and both musicals run through July 30th. TFR Producer Bob Stevenson hosted a live preview session of Little Shop in KUHF's Studio 3-C.ξξAudio here.ξξ

Melba MooreThis summer'sξoffering from Theatre Under theξStars is a Houston premierξ. Brooklyn: The Musical opened inξthe fall of 2004 on Broadway and ran for 300 performances. A self-described "sidewalk fairy tale" of love, faith, hope and redemption, it is carried along on the strains of a soaring gospel and rhythm-and-blues inflected score performed by five homeless characters who live on the gritty streets underneath the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City. Melba Moore is the veteran film, recordings and Broadway singer-actress who first came to attention as member of the original cast of Hair and who won a Tony Award for her turn in Purlie in 1970. In the TUTS production of Brooklyn she plays Paradise, a street-wise singer - who may also be aξhooker - who looks out for Ol' NumberξOne and "tells it like itξis". Ms. Moore spoke withξKUHF's BobξStevenson about the show.ξAudio here.ξ
