Northrup Grumman is one of two competing teams working on the Crew Exploration Vehicle that NASA wants built to succeed the shuttle. The company's Doug Young says the so-called CEV will have several variations, according to its mission.

Young says the Northrup Grumman effort, with Houston-based Boeing NASA Systems as principal contractor, means jobs in the Houston area. Young says the new vehicle will look a lot like the old moon capsules.

NASA will make a decision on the competing teams by summer of next year.
