Despite filling more than half the nation's managerial jobs, women continue to earn less than men, according to the National Association for Female Executives' annual Salary Survey. NAFE President Dr. Betty Spence says virtually no progress has been made in narrowing the gender pay gap.

Dr. Spence says companies need to conduct compensation surveys of employees at all levels to find discrepancies, and then make the necessary adjustments.

Kinder Morgan has completed its $5.6 billion purchase of the parent company of Canadian utility and pipeline operator Terasen Gas. Houston-based Kinder-Morgan has received final Canadian governmental approval. Kinder Morgan Energy Partners operates about 40,000 miles of natural gas and products pipelines and about 150 terminals.

Alvin-based Team has sold its Climax Portable Machine Tools business to an affiliate of Horizon Partners for $14.5 million. Climax is Team's equipment and rental business segment. It's industry services include on-stream leak repair, hot tapping, fugitive emissions monitoring, field machining, technical bolting, field valve repair, nondestructive evaluation inspection and field heat treating.

New York-based private investment firm Apollo Management has acquired Houston-based Metals USA in a $447 million deal. Metals USA is a metals processor and distributor, providing a wide range of products and services in carbon plates and shapes, flat-rolled and building products.

Cornerbrook Development plans a 128-home community in Katy called The Pines, to be located next to the Villages of Mason Creek near Kingsland and Westgreen. The Houston Business Journal says homes will be prices from the $150,000s to the low $200,000s.

Southwestern University in Georgetown has received a $160,000 grant to help Dillard University faculty recreate course materials lost after Hurricane Katrina. The grant is from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The funding also will be used by the school to help Dillard staffers develop online classes for students scattered across the country. The historically black New Orleans college aims to reopen in January. About a dozen Dillard faculty members arrived at Southwestern this week. They're expected to stay until mid-December. Georgetown is about 20 miles north of Austin.
