Strayhorn renewed her call on Texas Governor Rick Perry to call a three day special session to help pay for Katrina and Rita relief efforts. Perry has said the special session is not needed because disaster-related expenses will be reimbursed from the federal government.

The state's financial books closed with an extra one-point-two billion dollars in tax revenue. Strayhorn says those and other funds could be used if the legislature would act.

Strayhorn criticized Perry for going through three regular sessions and six specials sessions with no resolution to the school funding issue in the state. Strayhorn promised to have a plan together before being sworn in if she were to win the election.

The primaries are March 7th. Carole Keeton Strayhorn is challenging Governor Rick Perry. The democratic challenger is Chris Bell. Musician and humorist Kinky Friedman is also an announced independent candidate for governor.
