A delegation of Russian officials visited the University of Houston this week to sign an agreement that will facilitate collaboration between the schools. UH Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Programs Jerald Strickland says during his time as provost of the university he began the negotiations with Moscow.

UH has 50 such agreements with international schools, but this is the first tie to Russia. It's also the only Houston school to collaborate with Moscow City University. Moscow's 1st Deputy Mayor Lyudmila Shvetsova says Moscow is a city of learning, with a student population of 1.3 million in the city's universities.

The agreement will be within specific departments. Houston and Moscow already exchange students under the Houston Consular Forum. But this agreement will also promote research partnerships and faculty sabbaticals.

The agreement will remain in effect for the next five years
