Houston Friends of Chamber Music Changes Its Name

Announcing its 2014-15 season February 26th, Houston Friends of Chamber Music also unveiled its new name.  Chamber Music Houston has been around since 1960 and has garnered a well-deserved reputation as one of the premier chamber music presenters, not only in Houston, but nationally also.

The upcoming season includes old favorites familiar to Houston audiences, such as the Jerusalem Quartet and “America’s greatest quartet,” the Emerson String Quartet, along with first-timers like the Kavafian-Shifrin-Schub Clarinet Trio, and the Modigliani String Quartet.

But don’t make the mistake of thinking that this Chamber Music Houston season is all about string quartets and piano trios (as enticing as these might be!); there are concerts featuring the Canadian Brass, “the world’s most famous brass group,” and male a cappella group Cantus.

And the music these ensembles will play is marked by its diversity too; from well-known pieces by Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms, to less-heard works by Darius Milhaud, Ernst von Dohnányi and William Bolcom.  There’s even a brand new, jazz-inspired quartet by American composer Gunther Schuller.

There’s full information about Chamber Music Houston’s 2014-15 season on its website.
