Houston Industry Shows Across-the-Board Pick Up In January

The Houston Purchasing Managers Index registered just over 57% for January. That’s up from 55.4% in December.

Ross Harvison is business survey chair with the Institute of Supply Management — Houston.

“We’re seeing an improvement of the employment levels back to where they spent most of the second half of last year. We also saw some strengthening in sales orders and productions. And then purchases were up significantly over the December time frame.”

The Houston Purchasing Managers Index tracks eight indicators of local economic activity. All eight showed improvement last month. The PMI has a range of 0 to 100. Readings over 50 generally indicate production will expand over the near term.
