The Paris-based company employs roughly 1,500 people in the Houston area. John Buckley, CEO of Air Liquide USA, says the business needs more space to accommodate future hiring.
“These leases are 15-year leases, and so you really do need to be thinking well down the road. We’re excited about the future that the Gulf Coast presents — we’re excited about the opportunities across the U.S. — and we’re committing to our headquarters location here in Houston and to the continued growth of that.”
The new Air Liquide Center will consist of a 20-story tower and an adjacent smaller building. The complex will connect to Memorial City Mall through a network of skywalks. The buildings should be completed and ready for occupancy in late 2015.
Air Liquide is the fourth major company in three years to announce plans to relocate to Memorial City. It follows similar moves by Nexen Petroleum, Cobalt International Energy, and Murphy Exploration & Production.
