For The Second Time In A Week, TxDOT Gets Ready For More Icy Weather

With Tuesday's forecast calling for freezing rain and sleet, TxDOT's Karen Othon says crews right now are pre-treating bridges and overpasses with magnesium chloride.

"And that's our plan to go ahead and get it out there in advance of the storm and while the weather is dry, that way we will be prepared for when the sleet and projected ice and snow does hit."

And it's not just Houston they're worried about. Othon says crews have a lot of territory to cover.

"We have the Houston district, and it covers a six-county area, and so we so have maintenance crews out in Brazoria, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Waller, all of Harris County and Galveston, pre-treating these elevated structures."

Othon says local law enforcement will make the call on any roadways that need to be closed. She adds crews will be on standby with truckloads of aggregate mixture to help break down ice and increase traction for drivers.
