Public Asked For Input On Transit Options For The Woodlands

The H-GAC's Alan Clark says The Woodlands has lots of commuter transit services for people who need to get to downtown Houston, but now there's demand for transportation to the employment centers in Montgomery County and north Harris County.

And as roadways get more congested, Clark says Woodlands residents are looking for new ways to get around without having to drive.

"There's a very active pedestrian and bicycle community in The Woodlands. They're interested in how those might be connected to transit opportunities."

And Clark says they're also looking at the issue of reverse commuting, for people who live in Houston and need to head north.

But to set up any new service there's the issue of money. Clark says they'll look at funding from a variety of sources.

"Recently The Woodlands Township became the recipient of transit grant funds. They'll be looking to take advantage of federal transportation support. But they recognize that will need to be matched by funds from the area."

The transit plan will be addressed during a public meeting this Wednesday evening at 7:00 at The Woodlands Township Center.
