Intro who you are and what you hope to get out of this internship.
My name is Matthew Prendergast, I grew up in Boston and moved to Texas to go to school at Trinity University in San Antonio. I graduated with a degree in Communication and business and hope to find a career in digital media production. With this internship I really hope to learn as much as I can about news broadcasting, as well as improve my own skills in digital production.
What drew you to KUHF?
I grew up with my mom always having NPR on in the house, so I have a love for public radio. When I moved to Houston the local public radio station was one of the first things I looked up.
What is your favorite public radio show and why?
Who doesn’t love “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me?” There is no better way to catch up on the week’s news, than with a hilarious game show.
Who is your favorite reporter and why?
I do not know many reporters, but I do enjoy David Carr from the New York Times. His opinions on pop culture are very similar to mine.
What are your favorite publications?
I grew up reading the Rolling Stone, and even had a ural on my wall of all my favorite covers.
Who should I follow on Twitter and why?
I enjoy following Stephen Colbert because the man is a genius and simply hilarious, and I enjoy following Mr. Joss Whedon for updates on his projects and any other pop culture news he knows about.
What is your social handle or nickname?
On most social media sites I either go by my full name, or shorten it to MattPrender. As for nicknames I don’t have many, but my closest friends from back home have taken to calling me Prendy.
What social media accounts are you involved with?
I am on facebook, Instagram, Reddit and Vine. I also follow a few people on Twitter.
What is the best thing to do in Houston?
I have not been in Houston long, but I have really enjoyed seeing free concerts at Hermann Park, and sometime soon I would like to go to a Dynamo’s game.
What do you do when you are not at KUHF?
When I am not at KUHF I love reading and writing for fun, it is a great way to clear my head, as well as golfing. Sometime soon I need to find the best places to golf in Houston.
