Houston To Recoup $574M In Sales Tax Revenue For January

The Texas Comptroller’s Office says it will distribute nearly $574 million in sales tax revenue to local governments this month. That’s an increase of more than 8% compared to January 2013.

R.J. DeSilva is a spokesman for the Comptroller’s Office.

"The sales tax revenue from retail trade, which benefits from consumer spending, was a big contributor to the most recent gain. And also telecommunications, for example — your phone companies, for example — those also contributed to the latest revenue gain."

Houston’s allocation for the month will come to nearly $47 million, up nearly 7% from a year ago.
