Biden Says Texas Risks Losing Jobs Without Federal Funding For Port Upgrades

The Vice President stopped in Houston before flying to Panama to tour the Panama Canal expansion project. Addressing a crowd at the Port of Houston, Biden said the widening of the Panama Canal will reduce shipping costs for U.S. manufacturers by up to 60%.  That in turn should lead to more manufacturing jobs in Texas.

"But folks, here’s the dirty little secret. These manufacturers will not come and/or stay here if we don’t have the most modern infrastructure in the world.  They’ll go to Brazil, where they have five ports bigger than this.  They’ll go to Singapore. They’ll go back to China."

Biden called on Congress to approve the White House’s request for $50 billion in funding to upgrade the nation’s ports and other infrastructure.
