With explosive growth north of Houston, TxDOT is trying to figure out how to handle the increasing load of traffic coming into downtown and the Medical Center using I-45. The agency is now having a third round of public meetings on what can be done to address the North Freeway's needs.
TxDOT's Danny Perez says they're looking at various options for the stretch of I-45 between downtown and the North Loop.
"Including widening 45 at certain sections, some work extending the Hardy Toll Road into downtown. Right now we're in the process of just getting comments from the public."
And Perez stresses they're still early in the process as they develop what's known as the North Houston Highway Improvement Project.
"We still have a long way to go as far as the selection process and when it's under review, so it's years down the line. It could be 10 to 20 years."

There's a meeting on the I-45 study this Thursday at Aldine Ninth Grade School on the North Freeway. Another meeting is set for next Tuesday at Davis High School on Quitman Street.
Both meetings begin at 5:30 p.m.
