Sheriff Offers Patrol Training To Mobile Food Vendors

Sheriff Garcia says vendors who register will be trained on how to recognize suspicous activity and people who are up to no good. He says, “Looking back at the New York City event, where mobile food vendors were the key reason why a bomb did not go off in Times Square — and then coupled with the tragedy that occurred in Boston, it made us think about how we can leverage additional sources of information and vigilance.”

Vendors will also have access to a mobile phone app to report suspicious people or activities.

Sheriff Garcia says the program was already in the works before the weekend murder of a taco truck owner.

Authorities are looking for two men who shot Lorenzo Juan Vasquez during a robbery Saturday afternoon at a Shell station on Fairbanks north Houston road, north of 290. Authorities say the suspects made off with no money.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for the arrest and indictment of the two men responsible.
