This is the fourth home for the collection of artifacts from the pre-cell phone era. It got its start nearly fifty years ago and was kept alive thanks to the efforts a group of retirees known as the AT&T Pioneers. The most active of these were the late Southwestern Bell lineman Clyde "Doc" Porter, and his wife, Oleta. Alice Aanstoos is regional vice president for AT&T.
"The reason that this exhibit exists in Houston and not, say, Dallas or practically anywhere else in the country really is because of that dedicated band of volunteers like Doc and Oleta Porter and the AT&T Pioneers, who early on recognized the relevance and the significance of preserving history."
Tours of the exhibit are available during business hours. To request a tour, call (713) 666-9164.
