As word of the stabbings began to reach parents, they frantically lined-up across the road from the campus, cell phones in hand, trying to reach their children as ambulances screamed by.

Joe Garcia waited to hear from his freshman daughter.

"You never think it's going to happen at your school. You bring your kids to school in the morning and you think they're going to get their education and have a good time and enjoy sports, and then something like this happens, and then you start thinking about alternative education. I don't know at this point. I'm just ready to  get her out of there, get her home and make sure she's okay."

Parents say they moved to Spring to raise their children in a safe environment, but have seen a steady decline at the high school, with more fights and some students who don't respect their teachers or authority.

Felicia Saldivar has two students at Spring High School. Her son was in the cafeteria when the stabbings happened.

"My daughter was also in the cafeteria, but she had just left and my son was still in the cafeteria and he said he heard a commotion and saw a scuffle and as he was leaving he [saw] blood all over the place. He tried to get out of there as fast as he could so he wouldn't be involved and getting injured or anything."

Spring ISD Superintendent Ralph Draper says this was his worst nightmare.

"Every parent sends their child to school believing that school should be one of the safe haven places, a place where they can send them and receive them back at the end of the day and it's what we send out nights and days working towards. It's what I lose sleep over. In my nearly 30-year career, this is the one thing that you pray never to experience."

Investigators believe the confrontation and stabbings might have been gang related and have a 17-year-old suspect in custody and two others as "persons of interest".

Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia says information from the public could help the investigation.

"We are asking anyone with information to please contact the Harris County Sheriff's Office or to contact Crime Stoppers with any information that you may have on anybody else that may have been ultimately involved. We want to make sure we gather all witnesses and all suspects."

The Spring School District has cancelled classes at Spring High School until Monday and will have extra security and grief counselors on hand when students return.
