FEMA Spokesperson Randy Welch says more than one million households registered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency after the series of hurricanes hit Florida last year. Welch says the Hurricane Katrina aftermath will be bigger.
The debit card is one of the new initiatives for FEMA. $12.3 million worth was handed out before FEMA opted to go back to the traditional method of monetary assistance which includes electronic funds transfers and checks. One concern is fraud.
