State Sales Tax Revenue up 9% from June 2012

The monthly revenues mark an increase of more than 9% compared to state sales taxes collected in June of last year.  R.J. DeSilva is a spokesman for the comptroller's office.

"That's been some very good business spending in sectors like manufacturing and construction, for example. The oil and gas industry also has been strong in terms of sales tax revenue that's come in. And also consumer spending is helping out. When you look at the restaurant industry, for example, sales tax revenue from that sector has been strong."

The comptroller's office will remit nearly $580 million in collected taxes to local governments. Houston will receive close to $50 million, a 7% increase over its payment for June of 2012.
