United Airlines Celebrates New And Improved Terminal At IAH

United Airlines paid more than $95 million to redevelop the south concourse at Terminal B.

Jim Compton is the airlines' chief revenue officer.

"On an average weekday, there's 600 departures from United and United Express. And those departures touch 180 non-stop destinations in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe Asia and Africa."

Houston Mayor Annise Parker says it's gratifying to see the partnership that began years ago with Continental continue.

"We are committed to making sure that this airport hub remains at the forefront of United's growth into the world. This new facility will allow us, as a regional jet facility, to be a new fresher face for this airport. It will allow many more amenities for the traveling public."

At 225,000 square feet, the South Concourse is four times larger than the previous facility.

Mario Diaz with the Houston Airport System says traveler amenities include modern gate lounge areas and 20 new food concessions and retail stores.

"Whether it's the concessions, or the ease of making the connection, this is what it's about. Today, it's about connect times. It's about making sure the passenger's relaxed, and making sure they get treated well."

Terminal B South Concourse will be fully operational in about two weeks.
