Born and raised in Houston, Gerald Rich is a newslab intern interested in computer-assisted reporting, photography and the next generation of journalism. He comes to KUHF News after freelancing in New York City for publications like Tumblr and the Greenpoint Gazette. Prior to that he interned at the Texas Tribune where he covered statewide politics.
Although Gerald received his bachelors is in economics from the University of Texas, he passionately believes that journalism is the best way to educate and improve a community. Since first setting foot in his college newspaper’s offices, he has covered a range of stories including a gunman on campus as well as the life and libations of Ernest Hemingway. He also is proud to have helped grow The Daily Texan’s Twitter account to one of the most followed in the nation
Outside of the station, he enjoys wandering the halls of the Menil Museum and playing with his cat. Additionally he serves as the Co-Captain for the Code for America Houston Brigade, sharing new technology and advocating for greater government transparency.
