Saturday Is Special Election Day For Senate District 6

If the early vote is any indication, turnout tomorrow won't be very impressive. Less than 10,000 people cast early votes in the special election to fill the Senate District 6 seat. This is Harris County Clerk Stan Stanart.

"The turnout is looking to be like one-tenth of the turnout last November. The opportunity for someone to really have an impact by participating is huge."

There are eight candidates on the ballot, including longtime local lawmakers Carol Alvarado and Sylvia Garcia. Stanart says he expects a smooth election day process.

"There's going to be 141 polling locations open that represent 226 election precincts. They can go to HarrisVotes.com, they can look themselves up, they can find out exactly where they're supposed to be voting because they must vote in their voting
precinct on election day."

A run-off is likely in the race to fill a seat that Gallegos held for nearly 20 years before his death in October. He won re-election posthumously and Governor Perry called the special election late last year.
