Houston Feels Sandy's Wrath — Through Flight Cancellations

More than a hundred flights coming out of the area's two main airports have been grounded, according to Darian Ward of the Houston Airport System.

"We're looking at 63 departures and 63 arrivals out of Bush — most of them headed toward Boston, La Guardia, and JFK airports.  For Hobby, we're looking at about 20 cancelled flights."

Ward says the number of cancelled flights in Houston could double as most airports in the Northeast shut down completely.

"We have been in planning mode since yesterday with those airports.  So some of those flights that we know were going to take off at 10 p.m. tonight have already been cancelled."

Ward says airlines have been contacting passengers to let them know many grounded flights probably won't be rescheduled until sometime after tomorrow. Each carrier has its own policies regarding changes and cancellations. But, generally, customers whose plans have been upended by Sandy will be able to change or cancel their bookings without paying a fee.
