Dog Rescue Group Go Barklistic Over Specially Designed Dog Homes

Assistant property manager at the Houston Pavilions, Carly Hiller, is pointing to a dog house that is the brain child of a local architecture firm.

“This house is designed by Kirksey, and the great thing about this house is it’s actually portable. You can’t tell by looking at it, but it all comes apart and these little sections of cloth wrap up together, and they actually stick into the bottom piece it folds up, and you can carry it with two handles, so it is very convenient.”

What she is describing looks more like a tent than a dog house.

“I kind of call it a tailgating house and it’s great for a dog who wants to travel.”

At the Houston pavilions this weekend these elaborate dog homes will be going to the highest bidder at the fourth annual Barkitecture Houston Tour and Charity Auction.

“The houses will be placed on all three of our blocks and they will be spaced out basically with a silent auction bid next to each house so people can walk around the property and just kind of go through our map and see who designed the house and what their design process was.”

Twenty-two dog houses submitted by local artists, designers, and architects will be auctioned off. The event started last night and ends at 5 p.m. tonight. The proceeds from the auction will go to Pup Squad a local animal rescue.
