Congresswoman Promotes National Voter Registration Day

“Ok ready? Give me a V. V! Give me an O. O! Give me a T. T! Give me an E. E! What’s that spell?  VOTE!”

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee was joined by Houston Rockets Power Dancers in the Third Ward this morning to promote National Voter Registration Day. A bipartisan effort, National Voter Registration Day is designed to spread awareness of the upcoming election and get people registered to vote.

“And so what we’re saying today is we want to make this an easy drive up, an easy drive in for you to be able to go and vote”

Jackson-Lee was joined by leaders of Houston-based minority groups and entertainers like local rap artist, Jay Xavier, who encouraged the youth to vote.

“I just want to encourage the young generation, let’s take advantage of this opportunity. At times when our hip hop is not heard, our voice can be heard, right now.”

While most of the locations to register are churches, Jackson-Lee stressed that religious affiliation won’t be a factor when registering. There are eight locations in Houston where you can register to vote this evening between 5-7 pm.

Registration times: 5 – 7pm except Acres Homes MS, which is all day until 6pm
