From the Senate floor, Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison lauded the July 1969 achievement. And she warns against cutting items in the space program, which can ensure a healthy economy in the future.

"We must invest in the programs that will yield the benefits that will keep our economy going and our people working and our engineers able to continue to produce the great things that have happened in our space program, in our medical research and more."

Apollo 11 crewmates Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins and Mercury astronaut John Glenn were at the church, which includes a moon rock embedded in its stained glass windows.
