Travelers looking to cruise out of Houston-area ports during fall and winter have typically had two options – Carnival and Royal Caribbean. This year, Princess and Disney are jumping into the fray.
"That gives us a lot more ships to fill, and our people do not have to fly to Miami or Fort Lauderdale to cruise on a different cruise line."
Elena Pelsinger owns and manages a Travel Leaders travel agency in West Houston. She says more people are scheduling cruises as the economy improves.
"We see an up in the market as far as group travel, intergenerational family travel. I have a lot of groups on the books for early 2013 and into the summer of 2013."
A national survey just released by Travel Leaders Group found Caribbean cruises the most popular fall travel destination. Cancún, Mexico came in second, while Mediterranean cruises ranked third.
