Ted Cruz: 'We Did It!'

In a packed ballroom at the JW Mariott in the Galleria, the first words out of Ted Cruz's mouth were:

"We did it!"

He told the crowd of more than 200 supporters that every conservative in Texas came together to do what was not expected:

"When we started, they said this was impossible. We were at 2 percent in the polls, and they said I couldn't do it, and you know what? They were right. I couldn't do it, but you could."

Although he never held political office, Cruz's confidence and fiery stage presence made Tea Party supporters across the state notice, along with national conservative leaders and organizations.

"Today liberty is threatened. Government spending is out of control and our crushing debt threatens our future. Every generation of Americans has given to their kids and grandkids, a brighter future, greater opportunity and greater prosperity. And our generation will be no different."

Cruz supporters at JW MariottHe says if elected, he will work to repeal the president's healthcare reform, stop the out of control spending and turn around the national debt. Cruz will now face former Democratic state representative Paul Sadler in the November general election.
