David Dewhurst Fails In Bid For US Senate

Governor Perry's endorsement did little to help Dewhurst.

"Let me start off by saying that this is not quite the way I envisioned the evening to start."

But Dewhurst thanked Perry for his support, and congratulated Ted Cruz on his victory in a race that often centered on who had the strongest conservative credentials.

"I've had the opportunity to travel countless times, back and forth, back and forth, across the state of Texas. And every time I do, I see first-hand the independence, the integrity, and the power of the men and women of Texas. I am left extremely humbled."

And Dewhurst told supporters the focus is now on the race for president.

"We will never stop fighting for our beloved Texas and we will never stop fighting for our conservative principles."

Dewhurst has another two years left on his term as lieutentant governor.
