Houston’s unemployment rate jumped to 7.5% in June, up from just under 7% in May. Texas as a whole registered 7% unemployment, up a tenth of a percentage point from last month, but still down just over a percentage point from June of last year.
The national jobless rate was unchanged from last month at just over 8%, according to numbers out today from the U.S. Labor Department.
The state added just shy of 13,000 jobs for June, roughly on par with May. The biggest job gains came in construction, while the biggest losses came in professional and business services.
