UH Moment: "All Kids Alliance"

"We're so happy when kids pass the test, but what we've come to know over time is that passing isn't good enough," Education Professor Robert Wimpelberg is executive director of the All Kids Alliance. "Our council of executives has established 6 goals: ready for school, ready for middle school, ready for high school, ready for college, ready for career, ready for life, and behind each goal is a key outcome," he said.

Hosted by The University of Houston, the Alliance gathers regional councils from business, education, non profit and faith communities, to evaluate the needs of children and  youth in their region, and respond in amanner unique to them.

"We help them create an executive level leadership group, provide data and data coaching and facilitation coaching in how to use continuous improvement protocol," Wimpelberg said.

All Kids Alliance

It's a process that is familiar in business and industry, but new in this arena. The All Kids Alliance is inspired by the Cincinnati group STRIVE.

"The whole notion of community owning the future of kids in this way this is new," he said.  "We need to get the lead stakeholders at a different kind of table in a way to—here's the trick—that sustains change."

The All Kids Alliance is part of what's happening at the University of Houston. I'm Marisa Ramirez.
