27.5 Days in Peking...This weekend we'll begin part one of a two part series exploring Dimitri Tiomkin's score to 55 Days at Peking. This score came with some controversy as Tiomkin was not the first choice to score the film. And then there were the troubles with the leading actress, budgets, and directors (two were fired). But beneath all that is a musical score that absolutely soars with color and melody. The orchestrations are first class and the performance is outstanding. Tune in this Saturday at 8pm and again Sunday at 5pm to catch part one of 55 Days at Peking. Only on Classical 91.7.
