So you're headed out to the rodeo with a carful of kids. They're excited about seeing the animals and getting on the rides and they're already clamoring for cotton candy. But all of a sudden, as you start to approach Reliant Park, you come to a grinding halt.
"The bottom line is it's a great event. Everyone loves the rodeo. No one wants to be sitting in traffic."
That's Metro's Jerome Gray.
"I understand they do a pretty good job of trying to move the traffic along, but it can be pretty congested, and it can mean sitting in your car for awhile."
Gray says Metro is offering easy options this year getting to the rodeo. They'll have shuttle service from three park & rides. You can take a shuttle from the Monroe Park & Ride or the West Loop Park & Ride for a $4 round trip. Or you can use the shuttle from the North Shepherd Park & Ride for $6.50 round-trip. Gray says it's a lot cheaper than parking close to Reliant.
"I remember last year seeing prices upwards to $30, depending on where you could find a parking location. It can be pretty expensive to park around there, not to mention just the congestion."
An even less expensive option for getting to the rodeo is the light rail. Riding the train costs $2.50 round trip, and Gray says you can buy your light rail tickets on the rodeo grounds.
"We'll have a special kiosk set up at Reliant where you can get them. It's going to be inside the gates of Reliant, and also at the Fannin South Park & Ride."
