CEO Jim Hackett said that he will resign “to consider other avenues for personal and professional growth.” Hackett will depart gradually, moving to a newly created position of executive chairman before retiring in 2013.
Hackett has been at the helm of The Woodlands-based Anadarko since 2003. He was in charge when the company was a minority owner of the Gulf of Mexico well that created the worst offshore oil spill in U-S history in April 2010.
Al Walker, currently Anadarko’s president and chief operating officer, has been tapped to replace Hackett. The leadership changes will take effect on May 15.
