Manpower Projects Jump in Houston Area Employment in Early 2012

The latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey for the Houston metro area is projecting a net increase of 14% in the number of employers planning to add jobs during the first three months of next year.

Gerry Burns is an executive with Manpower Houston Metro.

“We’re definitely seeing a vast change over just one year ago. First quarter of this year, we had a net employment outlook of zero. In other words, just as many companies were looking to reduce staff as were going to add. This time around, just one year later, we’ve got 18% of the companies polled here in the Houston market looking to increase their staff versus only four percent looking to decrease.”

The survey reports hiring is likely across a broad range of sectors, including manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade, and information. Construction is one of the few industries expecting greater layoffs.
