High-Profile City Council Race Heads Into Runoff

Jones got the most votes in the Position 5 At-Large race, but not enough to win outright. That sends Jones into a runoff against chiropractor Jack Christie, the same opponant she faced in a close election two years ago.

Jones was accused of ethics violations earlier this year, but the matter was later dropped. She doesn't think voters held those allegations against her.

"We have a really bad economy, the city has been laying off people. I stand for fiscal responsibility, governmental transparency, governmental responsibility. I work on flooding. I always listen to the people. I sit through council for the entire time. And I'm the voice for the voiceless. And that's why I finished first."

But Christie says he has strong support heading into the runoff.

"I have Republican-Democrat endorsements, ex-state reps, ex-city council members. I just think they'll be a concerted effort to unseat an incumbant for the first time in 22 years."

Jones was investigated after she listed her council office telephone number on a business card for her law office. She now heads into her third straight runoff election.

Voters will head back to the polls to decide that race December 10.
