Shumate comes to Houston Public Media from Houston CBS affiliate KHOU, where she serves as director of programming and marketing. She also worked for eleven years at Houston ABC affiliate KTRK, rising from anchor, host and producer to director of marketing and special projects.

Shumate will be the first executive to lead Houston Public Media since the entity was created earlier this year.

And together, they are a very unique beacon of light for this city, and I really look forward to going out and talking to the community about all the new things that we’re doing to serve the community.”
Located on the University of Houston campus, Houston Public Media has an annual budget of $25 million, with 165 staff members and 65,000 individual member/contributors.
