Houston Job Growth Surges to Post-Recession High

Houston skylineThe ten county Houston metro area added 65,000 jobs between July of last year to July of this one. Mayor Parker says that marks the strongest twelve months of job growth since the start of the recession in 2008.

“We’ve had 2.6% annual growth rate in jobs in the city of Houston. It exceeds that of San Antonio, El Paso, Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos. Texas may be better off than the rest of the country, but the city of Houston is better off than the rest of Texas.”

Parker says Houston’s private sector job growth is more than offsetting public sector job losses due to budget cuts.
